The next five contains a set of yesteryear players who never enjoyed the trophy-laden careers of some of the best to ever play the game. 10. Hughie Gallacher - 246 goals One of the greatest ever to play at the Tyneside One of the most prolific Scottish strikers of all-time, Gallacher spent most of his formative days in Scotland with the Scottish league before joining Newcastle United in 1925. At Tyneside, the young Gallacher quickly became a fan-favourite after ending 1925-26 season as the top scorer of the club despite arriving at St James Park midway through the season. The centre forward was the pivotal figure the following season as the Magpies won their fourth and, till date, last First Division title. The next five includes a Manchester United and a Liverpool legend. 16. Harry Hampton - 219 goals The second-highest goalscorer in the history of Villains A World War I veteran and a prolific goalscorer, Harry Hampton is one of Aston Villa's greatest. The Wellington-born lad started his career with non-league local side Lilleshell Iron Works followed by a move Wellington Town before securing his professional contract with Aston Villa and moving to the Villains in 1904. Hampton led the attacking line for the Claret and Blues for most of his time at the club. Playing as the centre forward, 'Happy' as he was nicknamed finished as the top scorer of the division on one occasion. Wayne Rooney - 208 goals White Pele Arguably the most recognisable names on this list, Wayne Rooney burst onto the scene as a 16-year-old. The Merseyside born lad made his league debut in 2002 for boyhood club Everton and scored an impressive 15 goals in two seasons before completing, then world-record fee for a teenager, a move to Manchester United. At the Theatre of Dreams, Rooney formed an impressive partnership with a certain Cristiano Ronaldo as the Red Devils dominated the late 2000s. Rooney took on the goalscoring responsibilities once his Portuguese counterpart left for Real Madrid in 2009. The forward went onto spent eight more seasons at the Theatre of Dreams as he became the Red Devils all-time leading scorer.
