Leon Goretzka - The VFL Bochum found Schalke nurtured Product

Leon Christoph Goretzka is a German footballer currently playing for Germany and Bayern Munich (moving to the Bavarian side in a free transfer from Schalke this season). The German midfielder started his club career with VfL Bochum in the 2012-13 season, quickly moving to Schalke in the very next season after Schalke scouts spotted this mercurial talent. It is here that the young Goretzka evolved from the exciting young prospect to the promising player that he is today. The former Schalke player leaves behind a big void to fill for the Gelsenkirchen based side, although the transfer to Bayern Munchen was not an unexpected one.

Goretzka, as he is commonly known, missed his spot in the limelight as he was cruelly ruled off the World Cup winning 2014 squad due to a severe injury to his thigh while being included in the 30-man preliminary squad for the Die Mannschaft even though 2018 gave him a place in the World Cup squad, shockingly going out in the group stages after losses against Mexico and South Korea.

                                            Goretzka at VFL Bochum

Goretzka started his campaign for the former UEFA Cup winners in the 2013/14 season scoring five goals in 32 appearances helping the Royal Blues finish 3rd in the season. The second season saw the young midfielder being limited to just 11 appearances after suffering a serious thigh injury resulting in Schalke finishing a poor 6th. The 2015/16 season saw the young midfielder being diagnosed with chronic bowel inflammation (causing him to take more time to recover from injuries) resulting in the then 21-year old making changes to his diet despite making 34 appearances and scoring 2 goals. for the Blues. The 2016/17 season saw the once-promising midfielder coming into the frame as he scored 8 goals and provided 4 assist in a career-high 41 appearances for the club from the Ruhr region club, even though they finished a disappointing 10th. The last and final season for Schalke saw Goretzka making just 29 appearances for the club forced him from playing in the second half of the season after his move to Bayern Munchen was revealed.

Leon Goretzka will forever be remembered in Schalke in his time with current manager Domenico Tedesco where he was used in the middle of the park, dictating play and making vital passes for his fellow teammates.

With Niko Kovac is all set to begin the new era for the Bavarian giants with the influx of young talents, let us hope and believe that the once exciting Schalke prospect will blossom into the feared midfielder that he is capable of being and maybe contribute to the European glory the BAVARIANS yearn for!!

Wolves : On a quest back to the European days ?

Source: Sports Interactive Community The very name Wolves thunders from the pages of English football history. It is quite hard to believe that the newly promoted Premier League club is, in fact,  on e of the pioneers in making the English FA as well as the European competitions. But for the past 59 years, since the day captain Billy Wright under the management of the legendary manager Stan Cullis lifted the Football League first division( now the Premier League) trophy at the Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton, the Molineux has been left silent with none of the predecessors yet to come close to emulating their success of their past.  The mid-60s saw the first fall of the mighty Wolves as Stan Cullis was sacked in September 1964 after a disastrous 1964/65 season that saw the 3-time league winners suffering relegation after finishing bottom of the league. The stay in the second tier was short lived as Bill McGarry ushered in a relatively successful 8-years for the Wol...

Wunderteam: One of the greatest team in football history

Hugo Meisl and his Wunderteam Football has not always been kind to some of the legendary International teams. The free-flowing Brazilian side of 1982, the Total Football inspired Dutch side of 1974, and the Magnificient Hungarian side fo 1954 are some of the prime examples. All these teams have revolutionized football in many ways and have mesmerized the fans and critics alike. Unlike the names mentioned above who have made their presence felt in modern football, the Austrian side of the 1934 World Cup remains relatively unknown.  The early 1930s saw Austria emerging as a powerhouse in European football. Inspired by the ideas of legendary English coach Jimmy Hogan and under the watchful gaze of Hugo Meisl, Austria developed one of the first super-teams in the history of the sport. At the focal point of the Austrian team was the 'Mozart of Football' himself, Matthias Sindelar.  Playing Style  Hugo Meisl structured his 'Wunderteam' based on the technic...
